In 2021, MT AGATE was instrumental in passing SB 109, a landmark law shifting Montana education rules from stating school districts may serve gifted and talented (GT) students to a mandatory requirement that they shall identify and support them.
The state still leaves GT education completely out of the core K-12 public school funding formula (the BASE formula). Right now, schools must rely on a tiny, unpredictable line-item grant.
MT AGATE is actively advocating to put a permanent GT component directly into the state funding formula .
